Guitar Note Test

A guitar note test is the fastest way to see if you can name notes without hesitation. Our placement check runs through open strings, single-string ranges, and landmark frets so you can spot gaps before you practice. It is short, focused, and built for mobile, so you can run it between lessons or as a warm-up.

During the test we show a note name and you tap its position. Each scope collects three answers, uses the median time, and compares it to a two-second goal. Miss a note or exceed the time threshold and the test ends, recommending the exact scope to drill next. The test uses natural notes only (no accidentals) to keep it consistent and clear.

Because the test stops as soon as you miss or slow down, it stays short and focused. That makes it ideal for weekly check-ins: run it, accept the recommended scope, and practice that slice until you can clear it under two seconds. Retesting after a few sessions should show faster times and fewer misses.

When you're ready, start the placement assessment and treat the result as your practice plan for the week. Combine it with Note Finder for targeted drills on the same range, then retake the test to confirm improvement.
